Year 6 get drumming!

The sound of African drums came to BCJS on  Friday.  Year 6 participated in a workshop where they learnt about different types of African drums and rhythms. They then rehearsed and showed off their new found skills to the rest of the school in a special assembly.  They were brilliant!  What did you think of their performance? They would love to hear from you.

What a wonderful day we had with Jim (and his djembe) from the World Music Workshop. All the children experienced sounds and rhythms from around the world and were enthralled by the different textures and timbres created by the many drums and percussion instruments that were being played.  Year 6 showed knowledge and skill when it came to their performances and had clearly learnt a lot from their recent class music lessons on Africa. It was a really special day and I hope it will remind the children of the fun to be experienced from playing music with others as well as developing a love for music in whatever form it is heard. Go to the BCJS Youtube Channel to see the Year 6 video performances but………turn the volume down!

Surrey Arts visit 22.11.13

wpid-IMAG1376.jpgDSCF1403DSCF1404DSCF1411DSCF1407

Today Surrey Arts came in to our school to demonstrate some of their instruments. I really understood what they were talking about. Some of the instruments were as follows… saxaphone, trumpet, flute, violin, viola, cello and clarinet.  The person who was like the conductor, but playing as well was called Neil and played the flute. Once they had played their first tune, each one of them came up and talked about their instrument. Most of the songs that they played were tunes from TV programs such as… The Simpsons, The Jungle Book , Mary Poppins, The Muppets and Little Mermaid. Also they did a tune that you might hear in a spy program. Surrey Arts coming in has really inspired me to play an instrument especially the clarinet.
