Thank you to everyone who came along to support the children on Sports Day. The children had a fantastic time and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. Thank you also to the PTA for the refreshments.
A massive well done to all our cross-country runners who took part in the Inter-Schools Cross Country Challenge held on Monday at Woodmansterne School. We fielded a complete team and we are very proud of all the athletes who cheered each other on and did their absolute best in their own races.
Our year 6 netball team recently took part in a tournament for local schools. They played well and represented the school brilliantly, winning every match and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship.
Well done to the year 4 and 5 netballers who took part in a 7-a-side netball tournament last week. They played extremely well and represented the school brilliantly. We normally play 5 a side mixed netball so this was a big challenge for the girls but is excellent practice for when they get to secondary school!
Last night, at the 2014 East Surrey and Sussex News & Media Group Sports Awards, our Netball Team were awarded 2nd Place in the Young Team of the Year category. We were the only school team to win an award honouring local sporting achievement in 2014. The awards aim to celebrate sports teams and sporting stars, as well as coaches, and recognise sporting talant. We were delighted to receive this award and hope the success of our netball team winning the Surrey Championship last year inspires you to get involved with all sport!

BCJS students joined in the global tributes to Australian cricketer Phil Hughes who died yesterday following an accident while playing cricket. The children participated in an assembly where we paid tribute to Phil, respects to his family, friends and fellow cricketers, the importance of using safety equipment in all sports and playing in a safe, sportsmanlike way. We discussed the positive uses of social media and how the world can come together to support each other when tragedy strikes. We will post the photo on our BCJS Twitter @BansteadJunior under both of the hash tags listed above. Today we won’t use our bats as a sign of respect, but BCJS will be back out soon playing the game that we love.
Well done to our amazing netballers who have competed brilliantly in recent tournaments against Sutton High, including 7 a-side netball!
Well done to our Year 6 A and B netball teams. They played brilliantly recently and beat our local rivals St Annes.
The annual Staff versus Students Netball match was played today under heated conditions! It was the closest match for years with the lead swapping all match. Eventually the score was tied 6-6 and a penalty shoot off had to decide the score. The Students streaked ahead and won 3-1. Thank you to all of the netballers for a brilliant year.

On Monday 7th July, Mr Jenkins and eight of our cricketers had a great time competing in the OCS Chance to Shine Cricket Finals Day at The Oval. Everyone played brilliantly, with BCJS not losing a game and being given the winners trophy.
